Tobacco Control
Smoking is the number one preventable cause of death, killing close to a half-million Americans annually.
Furthermore, a growing body of evidence has shown the deadly effects that secondhand smoke can have on us and our children. While we enjoy some of the lowest overall smoking rates in the state (7.7% in 2013), tobacco use is higher among our youth -- 9% for whites, 12% for blacks and Latinos. In order to reduce the impact of tobacco use and addiction in our community, we offer a number of programs focused on cessation, prevention and education to promote a healthier lifestyle.
