Around the world, transportation is the leading cause of air pollution. Breathe California of the Bay Area works on a number of fronts to reduce pollution emitting from vehicles.

Alternatively Fueled Vehicles

As the technology has improved, alternatively fueled vehicles (such as hybrids, natural gas vehicles, hydrogen fuel cells) not only emit fewer air pollutants, they are becoming efficient and practical for every day use. Breathe California of the Bay Area works to:

• Increase public awareness about the many benefits offered by such vehicles
• Advocate cities, businesses and transportation agencies to utilize clean vehicles in their fleets
• Support the development of new and higher performing alternative fuel technologies
• Alternative Forms of Transportation

​Breathe California of the Bay Area also actively promotes alternative forms of transportation and encourages local residents to leave their cars at home whenever possible. The agency:

• Works to increase public awareness about the benefits of using alternative forms of transportation
• Advocates for the expansion of public transit services that encourages increased local ridership
• Promotes the use of public transit, carpooling, walking and biking

​Air Resource Team

Breathe California of the Bay Area has partnered with the Santa Clara County Air Quality Resource Team, a collaboration of individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations sponsored by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD).
