Tobacco Retail Licensing (TRL)
Breathe California of the Bay Area strongly believes in local licensing for tobacco retailers to reduce illegal sales to minors. Retail licensing provides funding for enforcement of current laws and has been shown to reduce the availability of tobacco to minors. A few Bay Area jurisdictions have such local licensing, and others cities and counties are considering ordinances to impose it.
Breathe California of the Bay Area team members and volunteers have many times spoken before city councils and committees in support of local retail licensing. If your community is considering such an ordinance, we encourage you to attend hearings and committee meetings to support the measure. We also encourage you to contact us if you hear of such discussions in your community. We are happy to attend and advocate in favor of any measures that will reduce the impact of tobacco on our children.
