Huntington Historical Society's school programs are designed to reinforce New York State's Social Studies curriculum for grades 1-5, while also integrating elements of STEAM education into all our content and activities. Our programs can be customized to suit the current studies and learning abilities of your students. All of these [programs are listed in BOCES Arts in Education and are BOCES reimbursable.

Colonial Life on the Conklin Farm
Grades 1-5
Offered Sept - June; Monday - Friday

Travel back in time as a costumed educator introduces you to the Conklins and their daily life as a proud patriot family in Colonial Huntington. This program features a guided tour through the rooms of the c. 1750 Conklin House, and includes exploration time with historical artifacts and hands-on colonial crafts and activities!

This program takes place in-person at the Conklin Farm House.

History in Your Classroom
Grades 1-5

Journey to the Past
This highly customized workshop offers your students a way to experience history in a truly hands-on fashion without leaving the classroom! During this in-school program, students will work together to analyze artifacts from Huntington's past and participate in an activity as they learn to compare life then and now!

Life with Dr. Daniel Kissam
Grades 4-5
Offered May & June; Monday - Friday

Join us for a look into the fascinating life of a doctor and his family in the 1790s. A costumed educator will guide you through the rooms of the Kissam House and adjoining barn, offering hands-on learning and activites as students explore how children both worked and played in the past!

This program takes place in-person at the Kissam House.

Virtual Programs

Bring the Huntington Historical Society's historic homes right into your classroom with our virtual programs, adapted from our in-person learning experience.

Virtual Tour of the David Conklin Farmhouse
Presented by costumed educators; virtual tour of the colonial farmhouse museum with opportunity for student questions and interaction; historical artifacts will be viewed and discussed; quill pens and ink will be sent to the school, and can be used for classroom enrichment.

Virtual Tour of the Daniel Kissam House
Presented by costumed educators; virtual tour of the Federal style home once owned by Dr. Daniel Kissam with opportunities for student questions and interaction. Your class will enjoy a discussion of 18th century medicine and historic artifacts. The school will be sent whizzers, a small wooden toy for each child to decorate.
