Equine Expressive Therapy
Our mission is to build "I Matter" and enhance the quality of life for participants. We conduct a series of year-round activities that help both adults and children acquire skills from horses that are applicable to real-life situations. Our facility holds certifications in Equine Facilitated Learning from the Herd Institute, Horsepower Reading, and Stable Moments. We follow the Stable Moments Activities to focus on life skills using horses, alongside the EFL Herd Model and Horsepowered Reading activities. Participants learn to ride horses independently and assist in training horses through clicker training, target training, and natural horsemanship methods.
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) or Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) and Equine Expressive Therapy (EET) involve equine interactions aimed at promoting personal growth and development of life skills. Our year-round program content is developed by credentialed practitioners. Horses, being prey animals, are hypervigilant and can sense changes in energy, which makes them suitable for working with individuals who have experienced trauma.
Who Benefits? Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down Syndrome, veterans, those experiencing emotional abuse, trauma, mental health issues, anxiety, defiance, PTSD, ADHD, depression, bipolar disorder, and those exposed to drugs.
Available Programs:
This program is beneficial for children diagnosed with developmental disabilities and also suits adults. Currently, we can work with individuals who can maintain themselves on a horse without physical aids. Some Medicaid insurances cover Equine Expressive Therapy Services for certain diagnoses and complex management.
