Kanya means “Girl”, and Pujan means “Worship”.
In ancient Indian mythology, every six months, the 8th and 9th day of the Navratri festival is celebrated as Ashtami and Navmi. Several Indian families welcome nine young girls into the house by first washing their feet and tying moli (red thread) around their wrists. These nine girls are then seated and offered a variety of delicacies. These nine girls represent nine different versions of Goddess Durga: Sailaputri, Brahmacharini, Andraghanta, Kusamanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalarati, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri.
As per Hindu mythology, Thousands of centuries earlier, when the demon Kalasura distressed the earth, Goddess Durga defeated the demon in her incarnation of a young girl. The story goes like this, all the gods in heaven were sick and worried about the presence of the demon Kalasura. That's when all the gods approached Goddess Durga to tackle the demon. Then it said that Goddess Durga took the form of a young girl to fight against the demon. The demon Kalasura was blinded by the little girl's powers and decided to let down his guards in the arrogance and overconfidence of his will to defeat the little girl without much effort. The little Goddess pulled out her sword, killed him, and saved the earth from this despotic demon.

Today, whether we like it or not, the demon Kalasura has returned in the form of Female feticide, Lack of Education, Poor health condition, Exploitation, Social Victimization and many types of atrocities against unprivileged girls.
Women face discrimination on a more extensive basis in unequal pay, harassment, and unhygienic conditions. India still encounters child marriages, dowry and other evil practices. The phrase "women empowerment" itself is painful to comprehend. This means that even after long years of struggle to bring women and their hassles into the spotlight, some rituals and practices are still seen as obstructing women in certain sections of society. Even after a long time of brawling for equal rights in the workplace and education, we still see women who are still financially dependent on their husbands, making them restricted to the four walls of their house.
Ladli Foundation Trust has designed the “Adopt a Ladli- A Kanya Pujan Initiative”, an innovative way to build up an empire for females in society to be healthy, prosperous, and self-dependent. The idea here is to work towards a constructive tomorrow through religious patterns deeply rooted in our community.
In today’s era, Kanya Pujan has both religious and social essence. A ritual celebrated to worship girls is now a social movement to empower suppressed girls, educate them, and make them a significant part of society.

According to the Initiative, a family can adopt a minimum of one girl as a mother, sister, or guardian. The monetary expenses of these girls, including their healthcare, menstrual hygiene, education, marriage etc., will be well taken care of.
The mental and physical healthcare of the girl will be taken care of by Saheli, including their menstrual hygiene. This will include health check-ups (including blood tests) by doctors and individual counselling about sexual abuse, good touch bad touch by a team of trained Counsellors. They will also be informed about various infectious diseases; gender sensitisation will also be undertaken. Health check-ups will also be undertaken through the Anemia eradication wing of Saheli. Through Pathanshala, the education of these girls will be catered to mould them into the country’s assets. They will be given BYJU’S access, so online support will also be arranged. Their stationery and other school items will also be arranged. Some of the monetary budgets will be saved through the Shagun project for the marriage of these girls so that these girls can marry without any financial burden on their parents.
