Our Approach
ATHLETICS
Provide athletic training to children so that they will be healthy - both mentally and physically - and can perform at their highest level, reaching their full potential in life
We partner with the United States Tennis Association, the Jr. NBA, and NFL Play 60 flag football to provide the children in our programs with sports lessons and events. In addition to tennis, basketball, and flag football, we also offer soccer and are actively developing programs for other sports.
By participating in the sports offered through SportsWorks, children are less likely to be obese and bullied, and will have a greater likelihood of performing better in school. Through socialization with other children, they will also have fun, make friends, and develop greater self-esteem. |
PRINCIPLES AND VALUES
Explain and demonstrate God's love, plan, and purpose for each child
As a faith-based nonprofit, SportsWorks believes in the veracity and truth contained in the Bible. We teach principles, values, and morals from the Bible and share the gospel with the children who attend our programs.
By doing so, we believe children will know that God has a unique plan and purpose for each of them, and that they can live a fulfilling and meaningful life. Through our programs and lessons, children learn that they can make good choices in life, and escape poverty and a mired future as adults. |
EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT
Provide the educational support necessary to equip each child for academic success
By partnering with First Book and working with local universities and volunteer outlets, SportsWorks is able to provide children with books and educational resources. Studies show that children are more likely to graduate from high school and enroll in college if they are able to read at grade level by the 3rd grade.
All the children who attend our programs receive books that they personally own so that they have the opportunity to read when they are home with their families. SportsWorks also provides qualified tutors and mentors so that children will have the support needed to be successful academically. Enrollment in our programs is not required for access to these resources. We also offer annual reading contests, summer reading programs, and teach financial literacy. |
NUTRITION
Offer nutritional guidance to the children who attend our programs
Childhood obesity is a serious problem in North America. SportsWorks aims to curb this epidemic as obesity in adults can later lead to health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Through our programs, we teach children about nutrition and portion control.
SportsWorks provides only healthy refreshments at its events and counsels children who attend our programs on the importance of maintaining a healthy diet. We also measure and track children's fitness levels through the Cooper Institute's FitnessGram® assessment to ensure our programs are effective in keeping kids active and healthy. |

Educational Resources
SportsWorks provides children with tutors and mentors throughout the calendar year. While participation is encouraged, a child is not required to be enrolled in one of our sports programs in order to access these resources. If a parent or guardian does enroll a child, a tutor in a particular subject can be requested during the registration process. We will then match the child with an appropriate tutor.
We recruit qualified volunteers from local universities and established volunteer outlets to give children the educational support they need.
Tutoring and mentoring sessions take place either at a SportsWorks session or at a designated, public location where there is supervision from other adults.
