STN in the Streets
PROJECT SCOPE
STN successfully conducted a traffic safety education campaign to educate, engage, and
empower youth, families, school admin and staff in the local community.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
STN partnered with two local libraries, one museum, four cities, one college & several SBCUSD schools
to provide safety workshops, demos, obstacle courses & live murals.
YOUTH-LED INITIATIVES
Live murals were youth-led and took place at three sites: The Cheech Museum, Alec Fergusson Park in Rialto, and Lytle Creek Park in San Bernardino. The STN team created dialogue amongst attendees that focused on ways to improve pick-up/drop-offs at local schools & how to decrease risk of injury while distracted.
TIMELINE
STN in the Streets campaign took place between June 1st to August 16th, 2024. During this time, the community provided feedback on how to improve pick-up/drop-off sites on school campuses. The feedback was shared with SBCUSD.

We are #strongertogethernow in the streets
when we look out for one another!
Parents! We need your feedback!
Due to high volume of traffic at school campuses, our team continues to collect feedback to help improve traffic flow, circulation, and safety at drop-off/pick-ups for all students. Feedback will continuously be shared with school districts.
Paint LIVE murals at these three events!
Each STN in the Streets LIVE mural event was showcased as one canvas (youth-designed).
All three canvases are displayed as a collective mural at our STN office and often accompany our team at local events.

The kick-off to STN in the Streets campaign took place at The Cheech! on June 9th, 2024.
The event began with ceremonial Danza led by Xiuh Chichimeca Azteca. Over 55 kids contributed to the LIVE mural lead by the STN team, and participated in the safety demo by professional skater, Ryan Carrell. 446 attendees danced their way through the outdoor atrium to sounds curated by DJ Bishop and into the museum. Some of them learned how to salsa dance with free instruction from UCR. |
It was a family affair on June 19th as approximately 5,500 community members joined to celebrate the second annual Juneteenth Jam at Alec Fergusson Park.
The annual celebration led by Vickie Davis, officer of STN and Rialto native, included market + movies + food + live music + basketball + skateboarding + flag football. STN engaged a total of 632 attendees at our booth via the scavenger hunt, LIVE mural, obstacle course, and skateboard demo with professional skater, Ryan Carrell. Over 223 toys were distributed, adding a little touch to the black joy felt amongst the youth that profound day. |
HOLLYWOOD landed in San Bernardino & welcomed the STN team via Movies in the Park at Lytle Creek on June 28th.
Youth attendees donned their lucha libre mask & cape, and spent the evening with the City of SB, STN team & Nacho Libre! STN engaged 112 youth attendees with our campaign workshop, LIVE mural & obstacle course. |
Our collab with A.K. Smiley Public Library on July 9th was one of the hottest days of the summer. It didn't stop 54 kids from showing up for our safety demo!
The STN team created traffic safety dialogue with youth participants and held space for KnightSkate's founder and IE Night Skate organizer, Jorge Gonzalez, to demo some very important safety tips while on wheels - whether it be roller skates, in-line skates, skateboard, bicycle, or skooter. |
The STN team joined San Bernardino City United School District at San Bernardino Valley College for their annual Back-to-School Extravaganza on July 24th to ensure students were fully prepared for the upcoming school year. Our team engaged 88 participants via Parent Surveys, collecting their feedback on ways to improve pick-up/drop-offs at local schools. 147 students were able to pick out a toy and chat with us about how to stay safe in the streets! |
Our final public event of the STN in the Streets campaign was held at the Riverside Main Library on July 30th.
Ryan Carrell led a traffic safety workshop/demo to 17 kids. Approximately 57 youth participants were in attendance throughout the day and participated in dialogue, as well as learned safety tips via our obstacle course. The library staff provided free lunches to all attendees. |
SB City Unified School District allowed us to showcase the #STNintheStreets campaign at Warm Spring Elementary School on August 9th, 2024.
Our assembly included the theme "Stay Alert, Stay Alive" and engaged 300 students that triple digit day! Interactives included focus on 1) Staying Alert through a Freeze Dance competition,2) Disengaging from Distractions - where students were asked to do math problems while being distracted by their comedic peers, & 3) Rules of the Road via water balloon throw. |
