The 2020/21 season of the Choral Society of Durham (CSD) marked the 35th anniversary of Rodney Wynkoop’s tenure as its Artistic Director. To honor Rodney and celebrate these remarkable years together, the CSD has established an exciting new program – “The Wynkoop Fellowships for the Future.”
Rodney’s belief that music transcends differences, coupled with his commitment to cultivate connections with a diversity of community members, provided the inspiration for this Fellowship program. CSD aspires to broaden its scope with new repertoire, venues, singers, and collaborations to allow more people to experience the joys of high-quality choral music, either as performers or audience members. The program is aimed at encouraging new members to join us on this journey.
Program funds will be used to sponsor occasional gatherings of the Fellows to provide feedback and suggestions to the Artistic Director and other board members. Funding will also be available to provide assistance to Fellows, if necessary, to make sure that finances are not a barrier to their participation in the CSD.
Fellowships will be awarded each year to a small number of musically qualified candidates who have an interest in adding their voices and perspectives to our goal of community-building through music. It is hoped that through “The Wynkoop Fellowships for the Future,” the CSD will continue to honor Rodney by embodying his dedication to both musical and society goals for years to come.
