Support the Choral Society of Durham
Our donors make our performances possible
Because of you, CSD is able to sing!
In 2023-2024 the Choral Society of Durham performed multiple times, in a variety of
venues, featuring composers from different traditions. We gave a free concert at Carol
Woods; performed in non-traditional spaces such as at the Downtown Durham Holiday
Tree Lighting, CenterFest arts festival and EnoFest; recorded our annual free outreach
concert; filled Duke Chapel in December and Baldwin Auditorium in May; and hosted the
first-ever Community Sing, featuring 310 singers. Our encore concert of From Brokenness
Toward Hope: A Musical Offering (gospel mass and spirituals) was a benefit for Open Table
Ministries, which provides services to the unhoused in Durham.
All of these align with our goal to share the joy of choral music beyond traditional concert
settings; our outreach concerts are seen in nursing homes, prisons, and schools.
Thank you for all you did during this past year in support of the Choral Society of Durham.
Because of you, we were able to sing!
2024-2025: Another year of innovation
We have an exciting season planned, starting July 1. Our annual Summer Sing provides the
chance for any singer, whether a member of CSD or not, to sing through our planned
program for the entire year. We’ll be sight-singing together music by Daniel Pinkham,
Conrad Susa, and Gerald Finzi, a jazz mass by Bob Chilcott, and Beethoven’s mighty Missa
Solemnis. We’ll be taking our popular outreach concert to Carolina Meadows before
distributing it on our YouTube channel in November. In addition to a jazz concert in March,
our Chamber Choir will perform in April. Following on the thrilling debut of the Durham
Community Sing, we’ll be returning to downtown Durham at the end of May for the second
annual gathering of area choirs and singers unaffiliated with any chorus, who just want to
sing together.
Woven through all we do: The Community Collaboration Fund.
The Community Collaboration Fund is an endowment from which we draw, and to which
donors may contribute, each year. Our CCF allows us to bring diverse works to diverse
audiences in diverse venues, and to collaborate with other local arts organizations. For
instance, in 2023-2024, we worked with the Durham Symphony Orchestra, Durham
Children’s Choir, and the Little River Elementary School chorus, not to mention eight other
area choruses who participated in the first annual Durham Community Sing.
Your donation to the CCF will help ensure us a bright, collaborative future! The proceeds
from this endowment will fund specific projects each year to aid CSD’s community-building
