RESTORE has embarked on its 2024 annual humanitarian mission to Africa 

The Foundation for Reconstructive Surgery is performing free reconstructive surgery in Gabon, in conjunction with the Omar Bongo Foundation.

RESTORE, the Foundation for Reconstructive Surgery, has embarked on its annual humanitarian mission to Africa. It kicked off on Saturday, June 1 in Libreville, Gabon, and ends on June 9th, 2024. This is the first of the three missions to the African continent this year. 

This charitable endeavor not only aims to provide vital medical care to those requiring reconstructive surgery but also serves as a tribute to the late Omar Bongo Ondimba, the 2nd President of Gabon, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of his passing. The initiative, funded in part by The Omar Bongo Ondimba Foundation (FOBO), will see the team of dedicated medical professionals conducting patient evaluations and surgeries at the Hôpital d'Instruction des Armées Omar Bongo Ondimba. 

​RESTORE will additionally facilitate the exchange of knowledge and skills with local medical professionals to ensure lasting positive effects on the healthcare system in Gabon, further demonstrating the foundation's commitment to continuing President Ondimba's legacy of compassion and care for the underserved. 

Leading the mission is the renowned Harvard-trained, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael K. Obeng; Founder/CEO of RESTORE Worldwide Inc. He shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming mission, saying, "I am proud of the collaborative effort between RESTORE and The Omar Bongo Ondimba Foundation to make a meaningful impact in Gabon. Together, we are changing lives and restoring dignity through reconstructive surgery." 

Dr. Paa-Ekow Hoyte-Williams, Director of Medical Affairs at RESTORE, emphasized the importance of such humanitarian missions, stating, "Our team is dedicated to providing quality medical care to underserved communities. We are committed to improving the lives of our patients and empowering them to embrace a brighter future." 

Madame Pascaline Bongo Ondimba, the matriarch of the Bongo Ondimba family, expressed her support for the mission, stating, "This initiative embodies the spirit of compassion and service that my late husband, Omar Bongo Ondimba, held dear. We are honored to partner with RESTORE to bring hope and healing to those in need."

The mission to Gabon represents a significant milestone for RESTORE and its partners, underscoring their shared commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of individuals in need of reconstructive surgery.

RESTORE Completes its 24th
Global ​​Mission in Cameroon; 
315 operations performed

RESTORE proudly announces the successful completion of its 24th mission in capital city of Cameroon, Yaoundé. Spanning a week, the mission carried out 315 vital medical operations, making this the largest mission for RESTORE.

It was the second humanitarian trip to Yaoundé, Cameroon, with its biggest-ever team of 40 healthcare personnel. This mission trip, which was a collaborative effort between doctors from the United States, France, Germany, Senegal, Mali and the United Kingdom, was fully sponsored by a philanthropist and entrepreneur Eran Moas, founder of Avi Sivan Abraham Foundation (ASAF) Cameroon.

Throughout the mission, RESTORE’s highly skilled medical team worked tirelessly in two shifts (from 7am to 4am), to provide critical surgical procedures to those who had limited or no access to medical help because of economic factors or the complex nature of their condition and lack of local expertise.

The different types of surgeries included:
  • Cleft lip and palate repair
  • Craniofacial surgery
  • Tumor resection and reconstruction
  • Burn reconstruction
  • Breast surgery including mastectomies and reconstruction
  • Hand, foot & extremity surgery
  • Excision and debulking of tumors
  • Intersex surgery / gender re-affirmation surgery
  • Spine/orthopedic surgery
  • Urology/gynecology reconstruction
  • Auditory diagnostics and care

The mission saw the inclusion of an audiologist who single-handedly screened and tested over 60 patients, dispensing 38 hearing aids donated by Sonova, LLC to both children and adults, allowing them to regain the precious gift of hearing.

Dr. Michael K. Obeng, the Founder and CEO of RESTORE Worldwide Inc, says “I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the founder of ASAF, Mr. Eran Moas for funding this much needed mission, as well as the Military Hospital and the local volunteers of our RESTORE team who helped us ensure a coordinated approach to delivery of our services.”

With a steadfast commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and changing lives, RESTORE conducted surgeries valued at more than 15 million USD, completely free of cost for the people of Cameroon.

To date, RESTORE Worldwide has provided over 1,900 surgeries free of charge in three different continents, with a monetary value exceeding 95 million USD.

ANNUAL FUNDRAISER

​RESTORE celebrated its 15th anniversary with a Fundraiser Dinner Gala to raise awareness of the cause and its dedication to providing free reconstructive surgeries in underserved areas around the world.         Dr. Michael K. Obeng, an award-winning Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon, Humanitarian, Philanthropist, and Global Health Strategist, hosted the event at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills on March 25, 2023. The event brought together many of Hollywood's biggest stars to raise awareness and funds for RESTORE Worldwide.

RESTORE Worldwide Inc.: The Foundation for Free Reconstructive Surgery was founded in 2008 by Ghanian-American Award-winning Plastic Surgeon, Philantropist, Humanitarian and Global Health Strategist Dr. Michael K. Obeng.

He is currently in private practice in Beverly Hills, where he is the director of MiKO Plastic Surgery & MiKO Surgery Center. His inspiration comes from mentors and other similar organizations. Most significantly, he is inspired by his own humble beginnings in Ghana, where he witnesses the devastating effects of disease, illness and the negative social consequences of deformities attributed to supernatural forces. Although there is an overwhelming need for reconstructive surgery in developing countries, these types of surgeries are not available because there are no personnel trained to provide the necessary services.

The focus of Dr. Michael K. Obeng and RESTORE team is to respond to plight of these individuals. As part of our mission we seek to educate and train local physicians in techniques necessary to perpetuate our initial work to benefit more people in the years to come.

The City of Los Angeles honors RESTORE
in celebration of ​AFRICA DAY 2023

RESTORE's founder Dr. Obeng was honored at the Los Angeles City Hall on May 30th 2023 for his philanthropic efforts. The city administration found Dr.Obeng's work and mission of giving back to the range of African communities to be quite impressive.
