Letter from the Founder
It is with great pleasure to announce that this year marks the 15th anniversary of RESTORE Worldwide, Inc.; The Foundation for Reconstructive Surgery! RESTORE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit medical service organization that provides free reconstructive surgery and related medical services to children and adults with disfiguring deformities from birth, accidents, and diseases involving not only the head and neck region, but also the extremities, trunk, and breast. As we reflect on these years with gratitude, fondness, and nostalgia, we take great pride in our organization's ongoing expansion and growth. This growth has been made possible with the support of a strong donor base that has helped us reach this milestone.
Since its inception in 2008, RESTORE and its dedicated team of selfless volunteers have performed medical missions in 9 different countries across three continents. Over 1600 procedures have been conducted by the team at no cost to the patients. The monetary value of these surgeries well exceeds 80 million USD. We are not afraid to tackle complex reconstructive surgeries because our mission as a humanitarian organization is to transform lives and strengthen communities. In addition, the foundation's work has indirectly benefited countless numbers of patients of all ages through non-surgical management and training of local doctors.
Now, as RESTORE reaches this momentous milestone, I am not only keen that this success will be replicated, but I also envision reaching new horizons with a goal of raising 3 million USD this year to make an even greater impact. It is no secret that we have strong demand for RESTORE missions in new regions and countries. But all these much-needed requests are unfulfilled because of the ‘heavy weight’ of logistical costs associated with providing medical and surgical supplies, transporting the team, and providing housing and security for the team.
While some provide value by donating time, we need more than ever donors to provide crucial financial support. Last year we completed two medical missions: Cameroon and Ghana, where we performed an unprecedented number of surgical cases. The total monetary value of surgeries last year alone was estimated to be about 7.5 million USD. This year, we are slated to be in four countries: Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, and Ghana. We envision RESTORE moving to the Southern regions of Africa more frequently if we meet our fundraising target this year. With your assistance, we can eventually touch every corner of the globe.
