DEMOCRACY
Our schools are a fundamental bedrock of our democracy and the place we come together as a community. Our schools must be guided by those closest to our students and their needs- the students themselves, parents, and their educators. Those voices shouldn't just be engaged- they should govern.
EQUITY
All students, regardless of background or zip code, deserve access to the same high quality education- appropriately funded, culturally relevant, empowering and accessible. We fight for diverse schools, representative staff, and district policies that uplift and advance, rather than rate, shame and deprive our schools and students furthest from opportunity.
TRANSPARENCY
Public schools are public institutions and should be publicly accountable. If we value the voices of educators, students, families and community members, we should arm them with full access to the information they need to take informed action. Transparency builds trust.
HOLISTIC AND JUST SCHOOLS
Our schools must meet the need of the whole child. Students deserve an education that is well-rounded, culturally relevant, empowering and just- because it's right and because it works. Curriculum and evaluations (of staff and of schools) should be broad and holistic, justice should be restorative, and schools should bring all resources to bear to ensure students are supported, sustained and ready to learn.
