We’re excited to announce our 2025 exhibit and event series Writing as Resistance: A Celebration of Queer Literature. Literature has always been a powerful tool of resistance--and in this time of increasing book bans, censorship, harmful policies, and other attacks, we aim to amplify Queer voices past and present, to highlight the resistance work that’s been done and continues to happen in our communities.
Join us for the exhibit's book fair-style opening reception on April 6th to learn about local Queer literature and literary spaces past and present, and to check out books from our expansive lending library! All attendees will receive a special edition Lambda Library punch card, with incentives for checking out and returning books (Click here to see pictures and info from this event).
Then come back to dive further into resistance writing & Queer literature during our workshop series! Check out the list of events below.

Writing as Resistance: A Celebration of Local Queer Literature Exhibit
San Diego's queer literary spaces have long been centers of community and resistance. Through decades of newsletters, newspapers, books, zines, bookstores, book clubs, and more…. local LGBTQ+ writers have created platforms to share vital information, organize as a community, and share stories that would otherwise go untold.
Queer literary spaces in San Diego like Bookmark, Paradigm, the Obelisk, Libélula, Meet Cute, programs of the San Diego Public Library, and local book clubs serve our community not only by sharing Queer literature, but as community hubs where people can share valuable knowledge, connect, organize, and push back against those that would silence us.
As book bans targeting queer and trans voices increase nationwide, this exhibit honors our local literary heritage and the importance of writing as a form of resistance.
To see the full exhibit, visit us at Lambda Archives during one of our workshops, during our office hours, or email our community programs manager at [email protected] to set up a tour.
