Help Us Setup Donation Bins & Launch our program
The purpose of FITRAH is to transition our most vulnerable youth to adulthood. Specifically, we are focusing on those who are transitioning out of foster care, those who are homeless, court-involved or out of school(ages 16-25 years old). Thus, we believe in using business to deliver our mission.
As of 2019, there was approximately 440,000 foster youth in the US, and each year 30,000 of them between the ages of 18-21 will age out of the foster care system and become independent. (1)
In many cases, within four years of aging out 50% will have no earnings and those who do will only make an average income of $7,500 a year. Once a foster youth ages out, unemployment and homelessness shortly become more difficult to avoid. Many are just not prepared to be independent and don’t have the skills, resources, or support needed to access the opportunities that could launch them into employment or higher education. (1)
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, each year, an estimated 4.2 million youth and young adults experience homelessness, of which 700,000 are unaccompanied minors, meaning they are not part of a family or accompanied by a parent or guardian. On any given night, approximately 41,000 unaccompanied youth ages 13-25 experience homelessness.

These statistics may seem like just numbers, however they are a looming reality for our foster and homeless youth.
At Fitrah, we are building a book business with book donations that will be managed by our youth transitioning into adulthood. We believe that by allowing them a sense of dignity through work accompanied by positive mentoring, we can help change the narrative for many young adults on the border of homelessness. Your donations will go directly into setting up 4 donation bins in Sacramento and Placer County as well as funds needed to start the program.
