Position Description
CNA at Kirkland Ministries, Inc. (KM-Inc.) provides care and supervision to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in a residential and/or in-home setting. The CNA must demonstrate verbal and written competency in providing care for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. The position requires that CNA exhibits intellectual maturity, emotional stability, and moral and ethical behavior. CNA members are required to perform and maintain relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and administrative staff. Moreover, the CNA will be required to be a participant in interdisciplinary treatment planning to ensure that the permanency, safety, and overall well-being of the residents’ served are met.
Position Duties
The duties of CNA include, but not limited to:
- Supervise and assist as needed residents during meal preparation, housekeeping responsibilities, personal hygiene, grooming and other activities as needed.
- Teach independent living skills, i.e., budgeting, self-care, homemaking skills, cores. Assistance with Daily Living Skills, i.e., Personal Hygiene.
- Ambulation of individuals. Assist to walk from place to place independently with and without an assistive device.
- Provide daily exercise activities such as walking, stretching, running.
- Report daily activities
- Lifting or Transfer of individuals
- Assistance with medication oversight and administration. Provide first-aid assistance to all residents and assist in the follow through on medical needs for residents.
- Electronic documentation and or record keeping.
- Serve as an informal advocate for residents and provide individual and house needs management.
- Supervise residents in recreational activities both on site and off site.
- Provide input to individual program planning for assigned residents. Train/instruct residents in areas in individual program plan under the training system established by the DADS, including supervision of residents in workshop activities.
- Utilize crisis intervention techniques.
- Provide transportation to residents as required.
- Be responsible during evening hours to contact appropriate administrative staff in case of an emergency.
- Make written reports of significant incidents occurring during shift. Correct unacceptable behavior and help residents meet the necessary requirements of the house rules.

- Assist in general upkeep and repair of a facility such as, but, not limited to keeping inside of vehicles clean and ensure sufficient gasoline level for next usage, cleaning of facility grounds and/or buildings, and pursuing possible outside resources for resolving noted problems areas.
- Report suspected abuse & neglect to supervisor immediately (within one hour).
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the Program Manager/Administrator.
- Maintain knowledge of mental health, mental illness, and appropriate manner to document concerns.
- Respond to crisis situations regarding resident behaviors.
- Models appropriate behavior interventions for LVN/CNA/Unlicensed Personnel.
- Train LVN/CNA on comprehending the importance of mental health and crisis safety (Seeking Safety Training).
- Participate in on-going training for continuous competence.
- Participates in an interdisciplinary team to help manage resident medical, dental, and psychiatric needs.
- Other duties as assigned by Program Director, Operations Director, or Delegating RN.
Requirements
CNA candidates must meet the following requirements:
- 18 years or older
- High School Diploma or certificate recognized by a state as the equivalent of a high school diploma, or GED.
- Documentation of proficiency evaluation of experience and competence including, but not limited to:
- a written assessment to ensure the candidate’s ability to document services delivered of the residents to be served.
- at least three written personal references from persons, unrelated to the candidates, that indicate the ability of the candidate to provide a safe, stable, and healthy environment for residents being serviced.
- Have at least three-months to one-year of direct care experience or CNA certification.
- Certified copy of a three-year driving record from the DMV.
- Ability to pass a drug screen, physical exam, and a criminal background check.
- Ability to work in a residential and non-residential setting.
