Know Your ACE Score
An ACE score is NOT AN EXCUSE, but AN EXPLANATION...
To understand the impact of childhood toxic stress and childhood adversity, [in other words ACEs] is to develop an understanding of feelings, thoughts, behaviors, choices and events in our own life. An ACE score is like a time capsule that holds events from our pass but also a looking glass into our future.
When you take a deep-dive into understanding your own ACEs, your life will flash before your eyes and a rebirth process will begin.

“An ACE score is a tally of different types of abuse, neglect, and other hallmarks of a rough childhood. The “ACEs,” quiz asks a series of 10-15 questions about common traumatic experiences that occur in early life.
The ACE quiz is by no means exhaustive, but since higher numbers of ACEs often correlate to challenges later in life, including higher risk of certain health problems, the survey is intended as an indicator of a person's risk factors and prevention opportunities.

A Conversation Started The Original 1990's ACE Study
Take our updated version of the ACE Quiz below. We've added one additional question that represents the population of people that were raised in a neighborhood where violence or murder occurred.
5 of the questions are items that happened TO you as a child and the last 6 questions are items that you might have witnessed or been exposed to as a child.
Every "YES" answer will generate 1 point. Marking "NO" means that you don't recall that experience or that experience never happened to you.
When you complete the brief ACE questionnaire, you will receive an email with information specific to your Adverse Childhood Experiences score, along with online recommendations for support. We will also share a few important tips you can implement right away to help you minimize the risk of passing ACEs down generationally.

The possibility of a connection between genetics–or, more accurately, epigenetics–and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) could uncover startling revelations about parenting children.
Some researchers who have studied historic periods of trauma like the American Civil War or the Holocaust now suspect that abuse, neglect, deprivation, and trauma can impair the functioning at some level of future generations who may not even be living in the same adverse circumstances. |
