We were first contacted about OG in the spring of 2022. One of our advocates saw that someone had posted a photo of him injured and waiting for help. She jumped in her car and immediately went and picked him up. She took him to the vet and found out that his spinal cord was damaged just above his hips. The vet was unable to do anything for him other then start him on antibiotics for his secondary infections. So she reached out to us and at the time we had no space for him but she offered to Foster him. So we decided to jump on the team and see what we could do for this boy. His next step was a consultation with a orthopedic surgeon, he saw that the spine was fully severed. It was in this moment that he mentioned euthanasia. But for those of us that were around OG we knew that he was not in that mindset. OG is one of the happiest and strongest willed dogs I've ever met. He had no desire to give up yet and so we decided that we couldn't give up on him either! So we went back to the orthopedic surgeon and let him know that euthanasia was not an option and we are willing to move mountains to make sure this boy was happy and getting the most out of his life.
So now the next step was to see if we could overcome a severe leg infection he had in one of his rear legs. Unfortunately we couldn't and so in June of 2022 he underwent surgery to remove the one rear leg. The first few days after his surgery were really hard on him but by the end of the first week he was bouncing back with a vengeance! His mobility seemed greatly improved without the one leg holding him back and it became very clear quickly that surgery to remove the second one was going to be a very possible next step. But it is a major surgery so we needed to wait a few months to be sure and during this time he got a wheelchair donated to him from Walkin' Wheels and he really started to unlock how great his life is! As soon as he put his wheelchair on and it was dialed into his exact adjustments he was running full speed and very soon chasing a ball even! OG will be going in for his next surgery December of this year to remove his other leg. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for this brave, beautiful boy! |

HANK
Hank was rescued from the Tijuana puppy mills. At only 3 weeks of age he was taken away from his mother to be sold in the border lines. At the end of the day no one had bought him and so the person who had him was going to throw him in the garbage. Thankfully a kind-hearted homeless gentleman saw it and immediately went and dug Hank out. That kind gentleman gave Hank his very best, giving Hank all the love he could ask for. Despite the man being homeless he ensured that Hank always had warm blankets and clean water to drink.
But as Hank started to grow the man knew he could not give Hank the life he deserved. So he contacted us and asked if we could help him find a home with the promise that Hank would never know a bad day. We took Hank as well as making sure to keep in touch with the gentleman, only known as "Kid". Unfortunately 3 months later we found out that kid had died of a drug overdose. Kid wanted so bad to get his life together so that Hank could come home possibly. Our hearts were broken when we heard the news. Here was a young man in his early twenties with his whole life ahead of him. Hank bears his legacy and we will always be forever grateful to "Kid" for saving this precious life. |
