Inspiration Alcona's most popular music venture brings professional musicians to Harrisville for 11 consecutive Fridays from June 16 through September 1, 2023. Scroll down to see who's headlining. These free concerts run 6 to 8 p.m. on the lawn at Harbor Park above Harrisville harbor. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and listen to some of Michigan's best singer-songwriters. If the weather is bad, Harbor Nights will move to the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library, 312 W. Main Street. Inspiration Alcona's Facebook page will note such a shift as early as the weather prediction allows. |

June 16: Mike Ward has released four albums, including 2022's "Love Never Rests." Besides his releases, Ward performs regularly at small venues across the Midwest. Mike also plays at festivals, including the Wheatland Music Festival, FARM DJ showcases, Nor-East’r Festival, and Thunder Bay Folk Festival. Special guest Sara Gibson.

June 23: Claudia Schmidt is one of the Midwest's most popular folk and jazz musicians. With her smoky alto vocals and multi-instrumental skills, Claudia has crafted a unique style from the musical traditions of the past. Claudia's concerts reflect her eclectic approach as well; one critic has observed that her shows are "a lot like falling in love ─ you never know what's going to happen next." A Michigan native, Claudia was a frequent guest on the early days of "A Prairie Home Companion." More than thirty years and 16 albums later, Claudia continues to perform to her loyal legions of fans across the country.

June 30: Audra Kubat is a Detroit born singer-songwriter. In 1999 she created the band Stunning Amazon and released a self-titled album. In 2000 she was nominated for five Detroit Music Awards, winning one for Best Folk Artist and another in 2015 for Best Americana Instrumentalist. Audra has been nominated every year since. She continues to perform solo and write new material, releasing her first solo effort, “Elixir.” This record was followed by 'Untitled for Now' in 2003, 'Million Year Old Sand” in 2004, and “Since I Fell in Love with the Music” in 2006. Audra has performed at the Detroit Institute of Arts; the Ann Arbor Film Festival; Detroit Festival of the Arts; Detroit Tastefest; Arts, Eats and Beats; Dally in the Alley; Ferndale Art Fair; Hamtramck Blow-out; The Ark in Ann Arbor; the Michigan Theater; New York's Bitter End; The Living Room; The Bowery Poetry House; The Sidewalk Cafe; and Chicago's Common Ground. She has also composed for film and live theater.

July 14: Michigan Emmy award-winning songwriter Kitty Donohoe has made up songs for as long as she can remember. Describing her music as "folky, bluesy, Irishy, American, Canadianish," she draws from her roots to create unique music. With a love of language, an innate sense of melody, and the soul of a storyteller, she backs herself on piano, guitar and cittern with equal finesse. Kitty’s latest CD, "The Irishman’s Daughter," combines original pieces with some traditional music. In 2002 Kitty won an Emmy for her 9/11 song "There Are No Words," which led to its use in a film and an appearance at the Pentagon for the dedication of the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial.

July 21: The Lucky Nows Jen Cass currently resides in Flushing, Michigan, with her husband, singer-songwriter Eric Janetsky, and their five kids. With Rosco Selley, they formed the Americana band, The Lucky Nows. The three of them are talented musicians who know how to tell a story. Cass is an award winning singer/songwriter. They have performed all over Michigan including a number of festivals, including Nor’East’r Festival in Mio. She and Janetsky also host shows at their acoustic venue “Farmhouse Folk.”

July 28: Siusan O’Rourke, a Brooklyn, N.Y., native, has been playing music since she was small. The daughter of first-generation Irish-Americans on one side and English immigrating from Barbados on the other, Siusan was reared within a family that not only taught her an appreciation and love of all musical genres. She is well known within Irish music circles for her intimate sense of tradition expressed in both ancient ballads and her own Irish originals. Audiences across the Midwest know she is a ferocious and accomplished songwriter and performer of her own branding of Americana, roots, blues and folk.

August 4: When the world stopped in 2020, Eric Nassau returned to songwriting, tackling the hardships we faced during the pandemic with humor and aplomb while reflecting on the lessons he learned on the road. His solo performances branched out from the usual singer/songwriter genre and started featuring his keyboard, guitars and vocal rhythms all going through a looping pedal, harmonizing with himself and creating a dynamic sound that weaves in and out with a push of a foot switch.

August 11: Joe Peters has released a dozen CDs of original music since 1998. Joe grew up in the Midwest during the late '60s and early '70s, and his songs hearken back to a time when young people sought peace, love and adventure and expressed this search in their music. Joe has moved to the Bay Area of California, where he continues to write and perform.

August 18: Suzanne and Jim explore new directions by looking back into the roots of Americana music. The husband-and-wife team blend their voices and instruments in songs of an earlier time. The stories told by these old songs (and the stories behind the songs) not only relate tales of a bygone era but open a window into the origins of our modern culture. Since 1992 the pair have been full time travelers. Over the years they have taken their music into more than 40 states, Canada and Europe.
