Our Curriculum

ASK’s curriculum has been provided by AllergyHome in collaboration with Dr. Demain. AllergyHome, co-created by John Lee and Michael Pistiner, provides resources that help bring education and awareness to entire school communities. Dr. Pistiner is the content provider for AllergyHome. He is a pediatric allergist, the father of a child with food allergies and he serves as a voluntary consultant for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, School Health Services.
As experts in the field of children’s allergies, AllergyHome and Dr. Demain have collaborated to create training material specific to Colorado schools and consistent with Colorado State laws, rules and guidelines. Our common goals and interests are founded in the concern for the safety of children with food allergies, especially in educational settings. The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) has approved the use of the Allergy Safe Kids online module for food allergy training for school staff across all Colorado districts. Our very own Colorado school nurses participated in a 2-year research study evaluating the long-term success of our training module. We are proud to have data to support findings of increased measures of confidence, attitude and knowledge for as long as 2 years following our food allergy training. |
