Update on Sudan:
A Crisis of Unprecedented Proportions
The situation in Sudan is nothing short of catastrophic, affecting approximately 49 million citizens. The country is witnessing a relentless spread of conflict, with fighting encroaching into new regions each week. Shockingly, nearly 25 million people, representing roughly half of the population, require immediate humanitarian assistance.
Sudan is grappling with the impending threat of famine, which looms over the war-torn regions and endangers the lives of 6.3 million individuals in the coming months. Amid this crisis, 4.2 million women and girls face the harrowing specter of gender-based violence, while almost 700,000 children with severe acute malnutrition are at risk of perishing by year's end. These statistics, already alarming, continue to escalate daily. The devastating toll of the army-Rapid Support Forces (RSF) conflict on the Sudanese people is undeniable. Reports from many sources have unveiled disturbing evidence, including alleged mass graves and widespread atrocities against civilians in Khartoum and other regions.
Furthermore, the situation in Khartoum State is marked by dire humanitarian consequences, including the destruction of civilian sites, attacks on healthcare facilities, and restrictions on humanitarian access. The road to recovery for Sudan's capital, Khartoum, is likely to be protracted even after the conflict's cessation. As the conflict approaches its six-month mark, the emergence of shadowy new militia groups aligned with various factions adds complexity to the prospect of achieving a ceasefire and lasting peace. The collapse of healthcare services has given rise to preventable disease outbreaks, notably cholera and dengue, further intensifying the crisis. While the Sudanese government and military factions engage in diplomatic posturing at the United Nations, the pressing need for peace remains undeniable.

For Sudan Inc. Update On the Situation Happening in Sudan
The situation in Sudan is dire, with the official military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces engaged in open warfare across the country. The death toll has already surpassed 500, with thousands more wounded, and the numbers are expected to rise. Both sides have been preparing for this conflict for months and are equally to blame for the security and humanitarian crisis spreading throughout the country. The fighting has led to a complete breakdown of law and order, with both sides targeting hospitals, businesses, markets, and homes, and the city of Khartoum is running dangerously low on food, clean water, medical supplies, and fuel. The situation in the long-oppressed Darfur region is catastrophic, with thousands fleeing and the death toll nearing 100.
There is no clear end in sight to the conflict, and even if either side manages to capture or kill the other's leadership, other commanders may take charge and continue the fight. Ordinary people are suffering the most, with local police calling on members of their communities to defend themselves and people of all ages fleeing to Chad to escape the violence. The world is watching in horror as the situation in Sudan continues to deteriorate, and governments from around the world are evacuating their embassy staff and citizens from the country.
Please continue to pray for my family and friends currently living in Sudan. This is the main way all of us throughout the world can help those in Sudan during this terrible time. For those that also want to help financially, For Sudan has established an Emergency Crisis Fund that will be used exclusively to provide Relief in this uncertain time now. To participate, please visit our website forsudaninc.org or contact Banjor Musa at [email protected]. Thank you for your love and support of those suffering in Sudan. We trust God's plan during this difficult time.

Update on the Situation in Sudan
All the Latest
Difficult TimeApril 22, 2023
The past few days have been very difficult for my family and friends in Sudan. For Sudan Inc wants to give a brief overview of the current situation happening in Sudan and ask for your prayers during this tumultuous time. The current situation in Sudan is marked by fierce fighting between forces loyal to two rival generals, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Widely known as Hemedeti), who are fighting for control of the country. Both were previously allies and played a pivotal role in the military coup in 2021 that ousted former President Omar al-Bashir. The current hostilities are the culmination of tensions that arose during negotiations to integrate the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) into the country's military (Sudan Armed Forces also known as SAF) as part of plans to restore civilian rule. Hemedeti, who leads the RSF, has a controversial past, having been implicated in human rights violations and atrocities during Sudan's Darfur conflict in the early 2000s. Burhan and Hemedeti both cemented their rise to power by currying favor with Gulf powers and commanded separate battalions of Sudanese forces, who were sent to serve with the Saudi-led coalition forces in Yemen. International powers have expressed concern, with the UN Security Council holding its first meeting on the crisis in Sudan. |
The two opposing sides started fighting each other on April 15, 2023. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) currently has the upper hand in most parts of the country, and there are reports of widespread looting and war crimes committed by both sides. The death toll has risen to over 400, and the number of wounded is at 4,000 and climbing fast. The most brutal fighting is still taking place in Khartoum, with both sides pouring thousands of reinforcements, artillery, and weapons and ammunition into the capital. Large parts of Khartoum are without power, and the city is running dangerously low on fuel, water, and food. The healthcare system is at high risk of total collapse in the next few days, with several hospitals attacked and all running low on supplies and staff. Ceasefire attempts by the international community have failed, and most international aid operations in the country have been halted. Multiple countries, including the United States, are preparing for military evacuations of diplomatic personnel and whatever citizens sheltering in place they can reach. Other countries are now entering the conflict, with reports of Egypt launching airstrikes against RSF bases and supply lines and unconfirmed reports that the United Arab Emirates is attempting to resupply the RSF through Libya. The Russian mercenary group Wagner, which has a sizable presence in Sudan, is reported to be furnishing the RSF with surface-to-air missiles. The Sudanese people stand to lose the most, caught in the crossfire, and predicting when and how this ends is a futile effort.

Perspective from Our DirectorApril 22, 2023
I have been in continuous contact with family and friends in Sudan. Fortunately, internet access has been accessible for my family. It feels good to hear their voices. I personally know of two people who have been critically injured, and one unfortunately lost his life due to this senseless conflict. Please continue to pray for family and friends currently living in Sudan. By Banjor Musa #ForSudanInc |
