Audtions
Madbarn productions is a no cut theater program where all children are given a chance to shine in our productions. Auditions give us an opportunity to make sure each child is placed in the role that is right for them. Auditions are held in small groups in half hour slots. Auditions are broken into three sections: Singing, Acting and Stage Movement.
SINGING
Actors looking for a lead role will be asked to sing 16 bars of a specific song A cappella depending on the role they are auditioning for.
Actors looking for supporting or ensemble roles will be asked to sing 16 bars A cappella from a specific song in small groups. Those seeking supporting roles can sing the song alone if they choose.
ACTING
Actors looking for a main or larger supporting role, you will be asked to prepare and memorize one age-appropriate monologue from a published play or musical, not to exceed two (2) minutes. A cold reading (sides that were not shared in advance) may also be asked.
Actors looking for small supporting roles will be asked to read sides (lines from the script) with fellow actors. Sides will be provided in advance.
STAGE MOVEMENT
All Actors are asked to wear comfortable clothing conducive to movement with soft soled shoes, like jazz shoes or sneakers so you can move easily. Do not wear flip-flops, boots, crocs or heels. You will be taught some simple choreography so we can see how your movement is on the stage. This will be done as a small group for all no matter what type of role you are looking for.
CALL BACKS
Some actors may be asked to come to a callback. If you do not get a callback, it does not mean you did not get the part you were looking for. It just means the production team has seen enough from you at the audition to know where they would like to place you in the play. If you do get a callback you will be asked to come in so the team can see some more from you.
