This summer, MBKCares launched two life-changing programs:
|
|
“Checkmate” Program
Discover the power of chess with MBKCares. “Checkmate” is a mentorship program designed to help youth develop critical life skills like conflict resolution, leadership, and teamwork.
Location: The Discovery Center, 3401 Reservoir Drive, Phila., PA 19121
Young people learned coping skills and they gained a full understanding of perseverance. They did so while owning the phrases “never give up’” while being “locked in”.
“Clubhouse” Program
The MBKCares “Clubhouse” golf mentorship program is tailored specifically for youth ages 14 to 19, aiming to introduce them to the game of golf through structured lessons, drills, and practice sessions. This initiative is designed to foster essential skills, discipline, and camaraderie among participants, utilizing golf as a transformative tool.
Location: Strawberry Green Driving Range, 1500 N. 33rd Street, Phila., PA 19121
Our participants started each session off with a mental health discussion circle. The discussions were very transparent and powerful. The “Your Thoughts Matter” journal by Francesca Reicherter was used to guide some of the discussions. “Clubhouse” golf lessons were conducted under the leadership of head coach Marissa McNaughton. “Checkmate” chess lessons were conducted under the leadership of head chess coach Harrison Sanford.
