Push The Sound works with higher education institutions to offer professional development opportunities around music technology for educators. A portion of our donor's contributions are put towards a scholarship fund for our courses. Educators are able to upskill in music technology through our VIBE Curriculum platform, but we offer more specialized courses that meet teacher license renewal and continuing education unit (CEU) requirements as well.

MODERN MUSIC PRODUCTION FOR THE INCLUSIVE CLASSROOM
DETAILS
Dates: 1 August - 31 October, 2021 Credit: 3 cr. (graduate level) COURSE DESCRIPTION
Music production can be leveraged in any instructional delivery model to ensure a modern, fun and robust curriculum can be accessed and enjoyed by music students, wherever they are in their musical journey. In particular, music technology can appeal to non-traditional music students. In this course we’ll discuss how music production positively addresses the issues of equity and inclusion in music education. We’ll explore how applied music production forms young composers and provides an open world of music exploration and license for complete creativity for students, whether they have a background in music theory or not. Strategies for teaching music production, lessons and resources will be provided pre- and post- course. As music production is inherently an applied subject, the majority of the course will focus on applied production. The use of various digital audio workstations (Soundtrap, Bandlab, Bitwig, Garageband), sound design techniques (it’s synth time!) and modern production techniques will build confidence in participants to lead the instruction of music production principles in the classroom. Additionally, we will explore modern music genres from cultural and production standpoints. This course will run into the academic school year and allow participants the ability to leverage work done into lesson plans and curriculum development straight away, although the majority of work can be done before the start of the school year |
