Summary
Perform organizing and door-to-door canvassing to develop deep personal relationships and sustained grassroots connections in order to fulfill the organization’s campaign goals.

This role regularly requires walking upwards of 5 miles per day on varying types of terrain. Office site is in a one-story building, with parking available.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time, temporary position, requiring a minimum of 10 hours per week and no more than 25 hours. Majority of the work will be during the late-afternoons, evenings, and on the weekend.
Travel
This position requires travel within Hamilton County. Reliable transportation required.

Essential Functions

- Engage in door-to-door canvassing of neighborhoods throughout Hamilton County
- Build teams of volunteers and develop volunteer leadership to build large scale capacity to create change
- Build the power of a grassroots education coalition
- Leadership training series: Support other staff or community leaders to take on roles in these spaces
- Conduct extensive outreach to parent and youth groups, community organizations, congregations, advocacy groups and other organizations
- Develop and implement a variety of engagement strategies
- Fundraising and membership development support
- Help plan and coordinate events such as community town hall meetings
- Develop individual relationships in the community
- Maintain and develop new partnerships with affinity groups who share common goals and values
- Organize and/or work with other organizations to include coalition participation in a variety of actions, including rallies, legislative days, legislative testimony, etc.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned
- Prepare Daily, weekly and monthly work-plan with supervisor
- Complete Daily, weekly and monthly reports

Required Education and Experience
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced organization
- Character references
- Customer-focused approach and ability to learn and adapt to needs and changes quickly
- Experience: Demonstrated ability to organize effectively over a short-term span
- Prior community, political, or labor organizing experience desired, but not required
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills appropriate to providing a quality experience including the ability to establish and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds in a short timeframe
