WHY DO WE EXIST? Local Veteran leaders of Galveston County recognized the lack of support and resources that existed within our rural county for fellow Veterans returning home to face the numerous challenges of transitioning from warrior to civilian. “They teach us how to put on the uniform, but they don’t teach us how to take it off. This organization returned to me a sense of purpose and today I’m an Advanced EMT and Firefighter for the City of Galveston,” said Robert Garcia, Army Airborne Veteran (2014-2017) and Executive Board Member of Honor Local Veterans. We understand the difficulties within the community, such as divorce, financial crisis, substance abuse, lack of purpose, unemployment, homelessness, mental trauma, and suicide. These are real issues that have a lasting impact on Veteran families and our community. We made a decision to reach out and help Veterans locally
HOW DID WE GET STARTED?Operation Honor Our Local Veterans, Inc. is a non-profit founded by local Veterans who have faced the numerous challenges of transitioning from warrior to civilian, today we can confidently recognize the turning point that improved our life. Our journey to recovery stemmed from the support and introduction to resources by another fellow Veteran. This is the catalyst we will build on and deploy.
MISSION OF Operation HOLV is threefold: (1) Partner with Mayors’ and City Councils to honor local Veterans by adopting our community recognition projects. (2) Veteran servant leaders are the link to connect other Veterans challenged with transitioning to civilian life to serve their community and renew their sense of purpose to serve. (3) Support Veterans and Veteran organizations through partnerships and collaboration. |
MISSION STATEMENT
HONOR OUR LOCAL VETS
Your donations will allow our Veteran run organization to create opportunities to honor our local Veterans not just for their commitment to serve our Country but also for their willingness to serve their community. We are committed to recognizing our Veterans that are local servant leaders while working towards attracting our men and women returning home to embrace this new role and opportunity as a civilian community leader.
MISSION OF Operation HOLV is committed to honoring local men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice to serve in the United States Armed Forces and giving them the opportunity to transition to serve their community locally by volunteering and helping other Veterans participate in hands on recognition projects at the city level.
