Elijah’s Story
BASKETBALL……………
When I was 12, I loved basketball. The Portland Trailblazers were my team! Rip City Baby! To be an exceptional player I practiced every spare moment I had. Then one day it all changed. I lost my energy and when I was running up and down the court, I couldn’t catch my breath. During one game, my mom’s friends were talking about how my face was white and my lips super red. HEARTBROKEN……….. We went to get an EKG and found out my body was doing strange things. That led us to the cardiology unit at Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel in Portland Oregon where I was diagnosed with Restrictive Cardiomyopathy. I learned that my heart was as stiff as a football and could not pump oxygenated blood throughout my body the way it was supposed to, and my whole life changed. LIFE FLIGHT……….. July of 2017, I was admitted to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, and two days later, I was life-flighted to Seattle Children’s Hospital. I spent the next five weeks in Seattle with my family in the hospital battling for my life. And on September 3, 2017, Jesus took me home. |
