Jim Himmel
Director
Jim has served on the Park Lawn Board of Directors for over 20 years. Jim came to know about Park Lawn from a past president of the Park Lawn Association Board, Bob Kresse, 30 years ago when assisting the family with guardianship. Shortly after that time, in 1981, he became affiliated with Park Lawn as a volunteer on the agency’s Human Rights Committee as one of its founding and still active members.
Jim is a graduate of Morgan Park Academy, received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Denver and his Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School. He is the proud father of 3 young men as well as being an avid boater, both sail and power. Jim has been a practicing attorney in the south suburban area for over 30 years and is an active volunteer for many charitable causes. He is past president of his village’s Library Board, active member and Past President of the Beverly-Ridge Lions Club, and Cubs Scouts Leader, to name a few. Jim has been the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Humanitarian Award and the winner of several essay contests. One never walks away from Jim without hearing a corny joke or two. When asked what it has meant to be affiliated with Park Lawn all these years, Jim said, “It’s been a learning experience, working with the caring parents and feeling the warmth of the special clients. I remember when my son Eric who was seven at the time, accompanied me on a horseback riding outing with Park Lawn people. He and a Park Lawn boy talked about baseball the entire time. It was so natural, they were just kids being kids.” |
