GOODIMMUNITY
Our health depends on the right balance between combative and protective elements in our immune response.
This is particularly important with regards to our defense against influenza, COVID-19 and other respiratory viral infections. Understanding what constitutes 'good immunity' is critical for the design of safe and effective vaccines and other therapeutic or preventive measures.
GoodImmunity.org was launched by the ViVI Board in response to increasing concerns within the scientific community over complex immunological phenomena related to COVID-19 such as antibody-dependent enhancement and Kawasaki-like syndromes in children. In oder to understand such phenomena better, we need International scientific collaboration and a better understanding of other known post-infectious adverse events such as ADEM, Guillaume Barré Syndrome or Bell's Palsy.
Our goal is to facilitate Innovation Hubs and high-impact research dedicated to break-through research in this important domain.
Sometimes, all it takes is to make the right minds meet.
As stated in a recent interview, 'we need to understand exactly what it is that we want to prevent in order to construct the most effective vaccines. Basic research is indispensable, takes time and is a lot more difficult to communicate or to get funded. There are amazing scientists working tirelessly in research laboratories around the world who deserve our applause and support just as much as the front-line health-care workers'.
Stay tuned for updates on the GoodImmunity(TM) Program through the GoodImmunity Website and upcoming publications in the Special Research Topic on Immunological Aspects of Vaccine Safety in Frontiers Immunology, co-edited by members of the ViVI Think Tank.
