PROF. Hassan Zaraket (PHD)
Prof. Hassan Zaraket is an Assistant Professor of Virology and Assistant Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR) at the Faculty of Medicine, the American University of Beirut. He received his Ph.D. from Niigata University in Japan. He did his postdoctoral training the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center and Center of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, USA. During his postdoctoral training, he investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the emergence of novel influenza viruses including H5N1 and H7N9. He also performed risk assessment studies of emerging influenza viruses with pandemic potential. Prof. Zaraket joined the American University of Beirut in 2014, where he established a virology research group. His research interests include genetics and evolution of RNA viruses, antiviral drug discovery, vaccine efficacy, diagnostics, and virus-host interactions.
Prof. Zaraket joined the ViVI Think Tank in 2020 contributing expertise in virology, virus evolution and virus-host interactions. |
