prof. edison arwanire mworozi (MD, phd)

Prof. Mworozi is a medical doctor specializing in Paediatrics and Child health and is currently working as a senior consultant Pediatrician at Mulago National Referral Hospital and Honorary lecturer at the College of Health Sciences Makerere University and Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi, Uganda. He graduated with an MBChB and Master of Medicine in Paediatrics and child health from Makerere University Kampala Uganda. He has received further training in epidemiology, research methodology, conducting clinical trials, good clinical practices, vaccinology and children’s environmental health. He is a member of the Uganda Medical Board, National Expert committee on Child Health in Uganda, East African Rotavirus Advisory Board. Prof. Mworozi is also a member of Institutional Biosafety committees for the Makerere University and Walter Reed Collaborative HIV Vaccine Trials and Makerere University Johns Hopkins collaborative HIV and malaria vaccine clinical trials.
Prof. Mworozi has vast experience in training at both undergraduate and graduate levels and has carried out research at health facility and community levels. He has published widely on pediatric infectious diseases and has been a frequent peer reviewer for scientific journals. He has received a number of excellency awards for his contribution to child health and survival. From has worked at the Mulago National Referral and Teaching Hospital since 1980 and has been teaching at the College of Health sciences Makerere University as consultant/honorary lecturer since 2006. He also served as Acting Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Child health Makerere University and Clinical Head at the Department of Pediatrics Mulago National referral hospital. Prof. Mworozi has keen interest in global health and scientific advancements in the field of vaccinology, and has been involved in the Uganda National immunization programs for many years, where he provides technical advice. He has played a key role in advocating for the introduction of new vaccines such as Rotavirus, Pneumococcal, and HPV vaccines in Uganda. Prof. Mworozi is a graduate of the Advanced Course of Vaccinology (ADVAC) in Annecy, France, the Royal Social Society Discussion Meeting on New Vaccines for Global Health in London, UK, and the Satellite Meeting on Accelerating Vaccine Development at the Kavli International Centre in Buckinghamshire, UK.

Prof. Mworozi has been a founding member of the ViVI Scientific Think Tank since 2008 providing expertise in infectious diseases and the study of vaccines in low resource settings.
